"Today
is my last day in Trieste, Italy. I have spent these few days with the
lovely and talented, Maya Gaorry, and her darling students. This is
mostly for them, because I want to say to you, you dear, beautiful
Sisters of the Dance: I will NEVER forget you. I pray to the Universe
that I can come back soon, and together, we will continue our journey of
American Tribal Dance. I
have felt love and kindness from all of you. I have felt that I was part
of your Dance Family. I have eaten, danced, and walked all over Trieste
with you. With Maya, I even got to drive her husbands carJ)
But don’t tell him that, he may not want to hear that a crazy lady
from Arizona was behind the wheel of his car. Trieste
is a BEAUTIFUL city, it has been like a dream for me to be here. When
Maya invited me to come out, I began to dream about it every single day.
I was so excited; I told all my students and friends in Tucson that I
would be in a show and workshop in Trieste, Italy. I tried to imagine
what this exotic city would be like (Trieste to most Americans is like a
dream city on another planet). I could not grasp that I would get to see
it. So, days ago, when the train was rushing along the Adriatic Sea to
Trieste, I burst into tears of joy. When I got out of the train station,
and was driving through the town with Maya and Luciana, I was almost
dizzy with delight. Most
importantly, Maya became my friend and my Dance Sister. She met me at
the train station, and has been incredibly kind and good to me. Maya is
a special Soul--- she is very intense and Spiritual. She is a Rare sort
of person. Anyone who meets her will be changed for the good.
The amazing thing is that you, her students, are the same way. Your
minds are open to new things, your hearts are brave and loving. You will
accept a stranger from so far away into your lives, like you did to me.
You went out of your way to treat me like a friend. I
felt like I was at home among you all. When I hugged all of you good bye
at our various partings, I felt great love for all of you. When I fly
back home, that Love will be alive for me, and it will be in the cells
of my body, and in my blood. Love changes a person. And the love that
you gave me, and that I give back to you, will never leave me. And I am
a different person now, from being with all of you. This is a Gift the
Universe, the Goddess, gave to me. Rak
